Nutrition Abroad Takes a Cooking Class in Myanmar
Cooking schools and classes are becoming increasingly popular for travelers. Most countries now have picked up on this, and cooking classes are easy to find throughout your travels. These classes give you an opportunity to dive more deeply into the countries culture, and provide you with some good tips and tricks for cooking authentic food at your own home once you return.
A highlight of our trip to Myanmar was Mr. Min’s Cooking School in Inle Lake, Myanmar. They offer a unique style for a cooking school, with private classes instead of large group classes found in other cooking schools. Our teacher, Mr. Kyaw, took extra care to make sure we had the best experience possible. We cooked a variety of simple, Shan/Inthra style dishes, all which can be replicated easily in your own home. Once you’ve visited the local market in Inle Lake to purchase all the ingredients you will need for the day’s dishes, you will get into a small boat to be transported to Mr. Min’s Cooking School, which is in a picturesque location that tourists wouldn’t normally visit. A small building sets on stilts above the lake, with one large outdoor table to eat your creations with views of the mountains in the distance. It’s an experience you will never forget.
